How to minimize intake of Pesticide Residues
Useful tips that worth sharing to all of you:
1. Buy fresh fruits and vegetables that are in season and if possible, locally grown, because extended storage and shipping increases the need for pesticides.
2. Remove tops and outer potions of celery, lettuce, cabbage and other leafy vegetables.
3. Peel and cook vegetables when appropriate, though some nutrients and fiber are lost in the process.
4. Wash or immerse greens in clean drinking water just before preparation.
5. Scrub with a brush when appropriate as this removes nearly all insects and dirt, as well as bacteria and some pesticide residues.
6. Go organic when buying apples, bell peppers, celery, cherries, imported grapes, nectarines, peaches, pears, potatoes, red raspberries, spinach and strawberries because they typically contain the most pesticides.
