PostHeaderIcon Pecan Brownies

Though one of my agendas last weekend was to bake, it’s not my plan of doing this Pecan Brownies. :) I’m eyeing to bake a Blueberry slice since my blueberries will expire soon. But I’m lacking one of the ingredients, which I couldn’t find in the nearby supermarket. I’m sure it has on the other store but I need to commute to get to that store, which is quite far. Then the thought of baking brownies came up when I saw some Pecan nuts on the cabinet. It made me smile and then I said to the husband, I’m going to use this and bake brownies…

PostHeaderIcon Top 3 Food Myths Debunked

Such a nice article to read in the morning… wanna share this to you:

1. Margarine contains less fat than butter
Actually, both contain similar amounts of fat, just different types. Margarine contains harmful transfats that can raise cholesterol levels whereas butter has saturated fat, which can lead to heart disease. Either one you choose, it’s best to only have a little.

2. Low-fat products are always healthier
With some foods, such as meat, you can be sure that the less fat they have, the better. But some foods labeled “low-fat” won’t necessarily be low in energy and will replace the fat with other ingredients, sometimes ending up with an even higher calorie content.

3. Red wine is good for you
In moderation, alcohol appears to be good for the heart. Thanks to its alcohol content, antioxidants and polyphenols, red wine has been shown to help prevent formation of blood clots and reduce the risk of heart disease. But if you have more than the recommended one drink per day the benefits are lost and health risks go up.

We always have red wine at home. The husband and I do drink one glass per day. It’s so nice.

PostHeaderIcon How to minimize intake of Pesticide Residues

Useful tips that worth sharing to all of you:

1. Buy fresh fruits and vegetables that are in season and if possible, locally grown, because extended storage and shipping increases the need for pesticides.

2. Remove tops and outer potions of celery, lettuce, cabbage and other leafy vegetables.

3. Peel and cook vegetables when appropriate, though some nutrients and fiber are lost in the process.

4. Wash or immerse greens in clean drinking water just before preparation.

5. Scrub with a brush when appropriate as this removes nearly all insects and dirt, as well as bacteria and some pesticide residues.

6. Go organic when buying apples, bell peppers, celery, cherries, imported grapes, nectarines, peaches, pears, potatoes, red raspberries, spinach and strawberries because they typically contain the most pesticides.

I baked this a week ago and obviously forget posting it, LOL!

blueberry Muffin

I’m excited to bake it that day but sadly it didn’t turned out the way I’m expecting it, hehe… it’s my first time for this muffin. Maybe the substitute ingredients that I use made it like this or it has something to do with the process, I don’t know exactly the reason. But it has the taste of blueberrries, which made me smile. (pakunswelo, hehe)

Nonetheless, I wanted to share with you the recipe in case you’d like to try it as well. Surely I’m going to do this again. I still have blueberries left at the fridge and I need to use it before its due date. So here you go:
